George Abt of Bangor, PA led wire to wire to score his first Keystone Legends Tour win of the 2007 season Friday night at Linda’s Speedway. Abt and fellow front row starter, Roy Danner, never looked back as they led Tom Mayberry, Tim Henry, and Terry Benner to the checkers in the 20-lap headliner. While Abt and Danner led the field over the rain soaked quarter mile dirt, a race-long battle raged behind them. Mayberry settled into third early, but was under heavy pressure from Craig Rochelle when the pair touched off turn two on lap five, sending Rochelle spinning to the infield. By lap seven, teammate Ronnie Dunstan slipped past Henry for fourth and began to apply pressure on Mayberry. Their battle was interrupted on lap seventeen when the third RMR driver, Jason Rochelle, spun off turn two and retired from the event. On the restart, point leader Rodney Kistler, last week’s winner Clinton Penkauskas, and Josh Morrow tangled in the same corner. In the melee, Dunstan knocked the front bumper off his #7R and was forced to retire from the event. Abt was perfect over the final three laps leading Danner, Mayberry, Henry and Benner as Robyn Delabar, Scott Peters, Jim Black, Rodney Kistler, and Craig Rochelle rounded out the top ten. Heat races for the 18-car field were won by Danner and Abt. The Keystone Legends Tour moves to Mountain Speedway in St. Johns, PA on Saturday, August 4, for their final asphalt race of 2007. On Saturday, August 11, the Tour will stop at the quarter mile dirt at Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood, NY for a regional qualifier for the INEX dirt nationals to be held at I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, MO on September 21-22, 2007. |
