George Abt rode the high line to score his first Keystone Legends Tour victory of the season at New Egypt Speedway Sunday afternoon over Paul Rochelle, Tim Henry, Tim Tomson, and Stephen Nederostek.

Howard Hunter and Abt brought the field to Warren Alston’s green with Hunter leading the first circuit over Todd McCollum, Paul Rochelle, Don Neuls, and Abt. Hunter set the pace for five laps over McCollum and Neuls as Henry and Tomson arrived in the top five.

By lap five Abt had dropped to twelveth running the hard-slick bottom groove with the rest of the field. When he ran high into turn one, caught a rut, and headed up the racetrack, Abt expected to see marbles and the fence, but found grip instead. Crossed up and hard off turn two Abt sailed into turn three and found traction at the top of the other end of the speedway as well. Abt was 10 th by lap seven and rode his personal highline to fifth as lap twelve went into the books. When Abt passed Rochelle on lap 14, the light bulb went on inside the helmet of the veteran Rochelle and he immediately tagged onto Abt’s rear bumper at the top of the speedway. Abt and Rochelle filed past Nederostek on the seventeenth lap and roared past the two past Tour champions, Tomson and Henry, with the white flag flying. Abt took the checkers with Rochelle on his bumper as Henry and Tomson’s bottom groove war became a battle for third. Nederostek took fifth as Justin Mulea, Ricky Harring, Hunter, Steve Stull, and McCollum rounded out the top ten.

Heat races for the 22-car field were won by McCollum, Nederostek, and Tomson. The Keystone Legends Tour returns to the New Egypt, NJ Speedway on Sunday afternoon June 1 st and will contest their next event on the quarter mile dirt at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, PA on Friday night, May 16 th.
